Parenting Teen Programs

Programs Serving Parenting Teens

ACOE operates WASC-accredited school programs for pregnant and parenting teens at two sites, in Oakland (Hobbs Academy) and Hayward (Burke Academy). Each location includes on-site child care to support students as they complete their high school graduation requirements. Any parenting student in Alameda County is eligible to enroll.

Students may be identified by parents, counselors, nurses, doctors, other students, and local agencies. Referrals for students under 18 can be made by their district of residence.  Students 18 and over can refer themselves.

Student Success Stories

Yolanda

Graduate of Carolyn Hobbs Academy
Parenting Teen School – Alameda County Office of Education

Yolanda came to Hobbs Academy as a 19-year-old and new mom. She had been attending a local high school in Oakland for two years as a newcomer and was doing well. But, she became pregnant and could not go to school and work, and pay for daycare. She was left in the difficult position of needing to drop out. Yolanda only needed like 20 credits to graduate high school, so she spent two quarters at Hobbs Academy while working full time.

Congratulations, Yolanda and the ACOE staff who supported her!
