The ACOE Teacher Residency Program @ TCSJ offers a comprehensive, year-long immersive experience for aspiring teachers. Residents are paired with skilled mentor teachers, gaining practical classroom experience and gradually taking on more teaching responsibilities. This program combines credential coursework with hands-on training focused on equity-driven practices and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students across Alameda County. Residents can work part-time while completing the program, earning a salary and receiving a stipend, allowing them to gain valuable experience while supporting their financial needs. With ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional learning, residents build confidence and competence, making a meaningful impact in their schools and communities. The program aims to strengthen the educator pipeline, promote educational equity, and foster professional growth throughout the region.

This year-long program includes a placement with a mentor teacher and 100% (Synchronous) online coursework two evenings per week.

Residency Experience

• 2 days a week in residency on average
• 3 days a week as a paraprofessional, substitute teacher, or classified staff member on average.
Coursework:
- 100% synchronous online, two evenings per week (Tues./Thurs.)
- Cohort model with opportunities for ACOE and peer engagement.

- Four years of teaching in Alameda County school with eight years to meet the requirement.
