Unanimous Support for AB 2181 in CA Legislature
ACOE Co-Sponsored AB 2181 Receives Unanimous, Bipartisan Approval from State Legislature
HAYWARD, CA – On September 11, 2024, the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) co-sponsored California Assembly Bill (AB) 2181 was sent to the Governor’s desk for signature after receiving unanimous, bipartisan approval by the State Legislature. Governor Gavin Newsom now has until September 30, 2024 to sign the bill into law.
The bill was authored by California Assemblymember Mike Gipson and co-sponsored with the Riverside and Los Angeles County Offices of Education. Supporters of AB 2181 include the California Teachers Association, the Alliance for Children’s Rights, the California School Boards Association, the Association of California School Administrators, and the California County Superintendents.
If signed into law, AB 2181 will expand opportunities for juvenile court school students to stay in high school to complete local graduation requirements and to utilize and benefit from the full range of education programs offered by county offices of education (COEs).
A Statement from the Alameda County Board of Education
September 3, 2024 – SUNOL, CA – On Tuesday, August 20, the Sunol Glen Unified School District (SGUSD) School Board appointed Chris Bobertz to the Board of the school district. This provisional appointment replaces Alameda County Board of Education (ACBOE) Area 4 Trustee Aisha Knowles. Unless a petition calling for a special election containing a sufficient number of signatures is filed with the Alameda County Superintendent of Schools within thirty (30) calendar days of the date of the provisional appointment, it shall be an effective appointment for all purposes.

ACOE Announces $8.4 M Grant for Mental Health
July 15, 2024 – HAYWARD, CA – The Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE) was awarded an $8.4 million grant from the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) to help fund and hire wellness coaches and increase capacity to support students’ mental and behavioral health needs across the county.
