You do not need an appointment to see a Credential Specialist but we suggest that you do call first. It allows us to talk with you about your credentialing requirements to ensure that you have everything in your possession to apply for certification. Although our office can assist you with submitting your application to the state, we are providing some general guidelines below. Please read them before contacting our office.

The Alameda County office of Education’s Credential Department processes new credential/permit applications and renewals of credentials/permits. We advise out-of-state and out-of-country teachers regarding California Certification requirements. We also advise California teachers about adding new authorizations to current California Certification.

Adult Education & Vocational Education Credentials
Alameda County Office of Education is authorized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to recommend for the adult education designated subjects credential. Contact Jean Bridgeman at (510) 670-4261 to make an appointment.

U.S. Constitution Exam
The credentials office administers the U.S. Constitution exam.  Test scoring is processed through the U.C.L.A. Education Extension Department and takes two weeks for results.  This exam meets the Constitution requirement for single subject, multi subjects, and vocational, and adult education credentials.

California Commission on Teacher Credentialing - This web site has credential information, credential applications that you can download, credential information leaflets, Professional Growth Booklets (search manuals & handbooks, and credential reports).
